Facebook Wants You To Shop
“Soon, not only will you be able to like, poke, and share on Facebook, but thanks to a new test you will also be able to purchase product.”
Facebook has grown from a platform used to connect with friends, socialize, and mindlessly share content, to a multi-functional asset that allows you to stay up-to-date on current events, and now… shop! According to a Buzzfeed report, the social media king is testing out shops for Facebook Pages.
Facebook will set up the shopping experience for businesses within their Facebook Pages, creating a unified experience for marketers and users alike. The shopping section will appear under the “About” section on the business pages and will be a huge step for businesses who have seen product interest originating from the social media medium. This will allow a cohesive shopping experience from seeing the product in an ad, to check out.
Bringing shopping directly to Facebook Business Pages could transform the world of e-commerce as Facebook becomes not only a tool for connecting with customers, but also a way to sell directly to them. Reports have proven that users who visit websites via Facebook originally are more likely to purchase product compared to any other social site. Data like this, supports a strong case for creating a shopping option directly on Facebook.
“With the shop section on the page, we’re now providing businesses with the ability to showcase their products directly on the page” — Emma Rodgers, Facebook product marketing manager
Allowing users to buy directly from their social media site could be an extremely powerful tool in the marketing world and would allow businesses the ability to utilize Facebook’s ad campaign while directing shoppers to convert right there on Facebook.
