What is a citation

If you are looking to optimize your website for local search engines, this process is called local SEO. And one of the methods of improving your local SEO method is to make sure you improve your citation as much as possible.

What are citations?
Citations are reference to your website, business name, and/or your domain URL.  Below is an example of a perfect citation.

This citation includes business name, address, and phone number, which should help Google and the search engines to better understand the important of the business in the local area.  The idea is that the more people talk about you and your business in the local area, the more likely for you rank well in your local area because there are a lot of mentions of you and your business.

The best method of creating citations are to get attention of locals and local media and let them talk about you and do the job for you, but if that is too difficult to do, you want to get out there and add your site to all directories and website with your address as much as possible.
